That seems like enough of a break. Maybe I'll pick it up again, maybe I won't, but I am on Twitter all the time and I have something to say that just won't fit in a Twitter rant.

In my humble opinion, there are far too many Hobby Police on Twitter. Too many people who tell people how to collect, how not to collect, how to buy, where to buy, etc. etc. Who cares? Who has the energy for all that Hobby Policing? How about this....let's all just collect the way we want to collect.

As the great Ricky Gervais once said, repeatedly, I don't care.

I don't care if you sell on Twitter or Ebay or Mercari or out of a van....down by the river.

I don't care if you use Ebay for comps or make up your own prices...they are your cards! Sell them, don't sell them, whatever.

I don't care if you stalk vendors, camping out to buy all the retail and leave none for the kids. News flash, this hobby hasn't been about the "kids" for a long, long time. That doesn't mean I didn't try to get my kids involved, but nothing grabbed their attention. C'est la vie. Having said that, you won't catch me chasing retail like that, but then again, I don't have the time.

I don't care if you post all of your retail finds and flex or don't flex or whatever it is that bothers people today. If it really bothers me, I can scroll right by or, if it really, really bothers me, I can mute or block you. Problem solved. I don't typically do that though. I generally reserve those features for the blessed souls who really rub me the wrong way. You know, like most fans of a baseball team in the southeast portion of my state.

I don't care if get your cards from Ebay, COMC, thrift stores, the LCS, Blowout, trades with your cousin Vinny, or the big box store. I do like to see them so show them off.

I don't care if you like graded cards, hate graded cards, only collect vintage, mistakenly think vintage starts in the year 2000 (like my kids). I don't care if you hate PSA, hate Beckett, love either of them, swear a PSA 10 is only a BGS 9.5 or any of a million other things that Twitter Hobby Police seem to care about.

I could write a rather lengthy post about my pet hobby peeves, but I suspect most of you would think to yourself, "I don't care."

All I really care about is that you do the hobby however you want to do the hobby. Just let others do the same.

Play at the Platehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14231140141558021698noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374663649398420285.post-4926263039927521902016-08-31T12:59:00.003-05:002016-08-31T12:59:48.765-05:00Time for the Medal Ceremony

No, I don’t have the Zika virus.
What struck me was 1) I haven’t posted anything on the blog in a long

Oh well, the past is definitely the past, so I can't worry about that. How about we just move on to discuss the second in a new series I like to call WTH?

I would like someone, anyone, maybe even Al Leiter himself, to tell me WTH is going on here? Is this a fashion shoot or a baseball card photo shoot? I'm curious if that pose was the "in" thing back then because as embarrassing as it is to admit it, I have a photo of myself on a day off the sub in Australia (circa 1992) that looks eerily similar.

So how about a brief update on my doings since my last post on March 12th.

1. I'm working on a new blog...I know, I know, but it's not for me. I'm building it for someone else...a member of Team USA so I'm very excited about that.

2. I'm still doing the TTM thing and will show my 2016 successes sometime in, oh I don't know, 2021 maybe.

3. I'm still working on the 2012 Americana stuff...I have so much and still need so many more.

4. I've had some health issues that aren't resolved. Hoping to get that in check by July because...

5. I'll be celebrating my 20th wedding anniversary in July and taking the family on an Alaskan cruise, my wife's dream vacation. We'll see.

6. There's the whole #Supertrader Wes started and I organized the contact info...hope Wes didn't mind me jumping in on that.

7. And I have a backlog of packages to post, which is why I started this thing in the first place.

So there it is. I hope you are all doing well. If you sent me cards and are hoping to see them posted, I will try to get some of those up soon.

And Tony, I hope you like this post. Hahahaha!

For now, you get this awesome reminder to join the awesome College World Series over at Autographed Cards. But please turn in a sucky bracket so I can win the Pudge autographed picture. If you won't do it for me, do it for humanity.

And yea, he doesn't have a creative bone in his body so he's calling it WTH? As in what the hell is going on on this card.

Let's see how it goes, shall we?

Every now and then you run across the card that just grabs your attention because of the action or the non-baseball stuff or maybe it's a prop or odd piece of non-baseball garb. Maybe you're like me and you think WTH? I'm not really a WTF kind of guy.

So here is the first card in what I'm sure will be a long lasting and well-received series of posts. Probably award winning even. (Please read the two previous statements with just a hint of sarcasm.)

I was sorting cards last week and ran across this card. At first glance it didn't hit me, but then I noticed something that made me say WTH? Eric Karros appears to be getting into position for a possible ground ball. So why is Tommy Lasorda behind him, preparing to throw the ball? After doing a double-take, I figured it was just a pre-game warm-up and Tommy was taking a turn at first. I do like seeing him doing something other than sitting in a golf cart or on the bench. I just wish UD would have given him his own card.

Maybe that's an idea for Topps. Give Managers their own cards, but show them actually doing something like COACHING. I'm not asking for action variations either, just a regular old base card where they are hitting fly balls or showing a player HOW to do something.

It's just a thought Topps. Play at the Platehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14231140141558021698noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374663649398420285.post-73205798562639237372016-03-04T09:00:00.000-06:002016-03-04T09:00:05.679-06:00Worth the effortI watched for years as other people posted their TTM returns and always thought, I could do that. I just never did.

Until last year.

Due to my lack of posting last year, I didn't post these as I received them so I'm going to give you a recap of my 2015 successes...and failures.

I'm a positive, optimistic person (haha) so this will just be the successes. Between February 27th and April 29th of 2015, I mailed out 50 TTM requests to MLB players and managers. Until I started this recap, I thought my returns were great. Then I ran the numbers and I realized I had 14 good returns for a 28% success rate. Honestly, I don't know how that compares to the rates of other people, but I'll take it. Every time one of those envelopes comes back, it's a real buzz of excitement. That's saying something for this old guy.

So let's see who was kind enough to send something back signed.

Allen and Ginter cards are great for TTMs because the card stock really takes the Sharpie well and the design, at least on the 2013 cards, works well for the signature.

I was coming back from Florida with the family and it's a long story, but I ended up on a different flight than them. Four hours different. Don't ask why, but I had taken some TTM supplies with me just in case I had some down time. Lo and behold, some of the time at the airport was spent prepping the TTMs and it paid off. John Gibbons was in a group of manager cards I had pulled.
Nelson Cruz, 50 game suspension aside, was one of my favorites when he was here because he game my kid a ball, then signed it. Ok, truth be told, he threw the ball to my son, he missed it and it hit him in the stomach.
That sounds like fun.

Say you decide to move to the other side of the world. (Over 6,400 miles from me at least.)

Say you decide to move to the other side of the world AND teach.

Say you decide to move to the other side of the world AND teach AND keep blogging AND buying cards for people back on the ORIGINAL side of the world you came from.

Let's say you decide to do all that.

Well, I wouldn't. I couldn't. I'm too chickensh.....

Not Ryan. He's adventurous. He knows that life is too short to be ordinary. He knows everyone needs some Japanese baseball cards in their life.

I sure am happy Ryan is that guy that I am not.

Ryan sent me a mess of Yu Darvish cards. These things are sharp. So what if I can't read them.

Now Ryan isn't stuck in a rut like me so he doesn't just send Yu Darvish cards. No, not Ryan. He sends Kara cards. Cards of Kara if you will. And cards of Kara are regular size and Yu Darvish cards are smaller.

My first #Supertrader package showed up last week…or early
this week. I can’t remember, but I do
know I was impressed. Wes of
Jaybarkerfan fame started it, so I guess it was only proper for him to kick off
the trade packages as well. I was
fortunate enough to get a hit out of the 2013 Topps Museum Box he broke for the
group. It also inspired me to break a
box of my own for the group, which you can see here if you missed it.

You can read an excellent write up of the game here. In a nutshell, the Rangers took the lead on the play where Russell Martin's throw back to the mound hit Shin Soo Choo in the batters box and rolled away. Rougned Odor scores, chaos ensues and that half of the inning took forever.

Move to the bottom of the 7th inning and the Rangers melt down, with three errors on three consecutive plays. Another miscue, but not an error, by Odor and the game is tied again. That brings up Jose Bautista who eventually hits a three run bomb that was the difference in the game.

As soon as Bautista hits the no doubt homer, he gives the epic bat flip that Topps immortalized on his 2016 card.

No one is a bigger Ranger fan than me. No one. No one yelled louder at the TV when Bautista hit the homer. No one. However, I never thought for a single second that the bat flip was wrong. I never thought it was disrespectful. In what was the biggest moment in his career to that point, Bautista hit a bomb that put a cap on a 53 minute, insanity filled inning. It was an epic moment for him, for the Blue Jays and ultimately the nail in the coffin for the 2015 Rangers.

I do think the "4th inning, we're down by 7, solo shot" bat flip is stupid. I think this one was the frosting on the cake that was the Blue Jays comeback in that game.

Now, can we just get Spring Training here so I can look forward to something instead of back at this?Play at the Platehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14231140141558021698noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6374663649398420285.post-43513767896158501642016-02-16T07:30:00.000-06:002016-02-16T07:30:19.620-06:00A Super DilemmaThe Superb Owl.

You read that right. And no, for once I'm not talking about the Night Owl.

I bought a couple of things from Blowout, including the box I broke for the Super Traders group. They were running a sale in conjunction with the BIG GAME and they call it the Superb Owl since they don't want to get sued. For my purchase, I was awarded two spots in one of their 30+ boards. The lucky randomizer gave me the numbers 4 (AFC) and 0 (NFC). Thanks to a two point conversion from ol' Peyton Manning, I won the last quarter.

My prize is pictured below.

That's a nice sealed box of 2014 Five Star Baseball. One pack, 6 cards. Super High End. They have them on sale now for $275, but they were retailing for $450. That's FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS! FOR ONE PACK OF SIX CARDS!!!!! That's ridiculous.

My dilemma is that I've searched Ebay for sell prices on these cards and unless you get very, very, very lucky, you are not getting your money's worth. However, it didn't cost me anything so I'm tempted to open it.

I was tempted to open it I mean. I listed it on Ebay. I have a high buy it now price and I already have an idea of what the money will go for, even if I only get half of my price.

I'll always wonder what was inside, but I'll never regret knowing what I got instead.

Thanks Blowout.

Twins, and Rangers.

Since I have a vested interest in the outcome, I asked Wes from Jaybarkerfan to do the random for me and send me a screen shot. He did and this is the result...
