January Contest

I've been racking my brain trying to think of some type of contest. I don't usually have too much trouble coming up with something, but this time I've been drawing a blank. The cop out is to ask about 2012 Topps, which releases just under a month from now.

So what are your plans for 2012 Topps?

**Yes, I can't wait!

**No thanks, I'm tired and apathetic towards new cards.

**Sure, why fight it, it's the only game in town.

**Other.

You don't have to use my suggestions, just leave a comment and I'll randomize the names for the winner.

I know you want to know what the prize is and I'd like to tell you it's some 2012 packs, but they aren't out yet. I'll probably give some of those away next month. This month you'll have to settle for some randomness which will include a pack or three and some cards that meet your general interests if possible. Vague enough for you?

By the way, I'm still working on the plan for picking a winner for the Year End Contest for 2011. I'm hoping to get a really nice prize for that.

  2. I'm out, waaaay out.

Hopefully I'll be able to trade wth other bloggers for the Braves. Other than that.... meh....

  3. Depends on what kind of manupatches they have in their blasters. I bought a metric ton of update because I loved the manupatches. :) Thanks for another great contest!

  4. I'm kind of soso about it. I'll buy a few looseys, a few rack packs, a blaster, and probably a couple hobby packs, just because it's Topps, but I'm not blowing up for it.

  5. I absolutely cannot wait for 2012 Topps to come out. The best time of the card season is when I see those new cards on the shelves for the first time.

I've got $45 worth of gift cards to Target that I got for X-mas, hopefully I can hold off spending them until February!

  6. Not even going to touch 'em. Not Series 1, not Series 2, not Update. I hate the design so much, I'm considering not even going after the Cubs & Pirates.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'll probably pick up some Opening Day. More cards, less money.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'll pick up the Red Sox in trades but that is it.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm passing completely. There's only so many times you can run the same gimmick on me: twice. Million Card and Diamond Giveaway... I'm done. Game changer? I think not. Give me Gypsy Queen or give me death... or something like that...

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm apathetic to the new release. I'll probably take a wait-and-see approach.

  11. Im with adam im just gona be after the red sox this year.{thats wat i say for now well see}

  12. Beond Opening Day, No thanks, I'm tired and apathetic towards new cards, at least until they come out, then, It's a Whole New Ballgame, Baby!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I've got my pre-order in on a hobby box and I'll probably pick up a few retail packs here and there but I'm not terribly head over heels for this year's design. Maybe ripping the first few packs changes my mind.

  14. ARE YOU KIDDIN' ME! I am sitting here eating my sauerkraut just bangin' my face on the wall with anticipation! Forget the dramatics, I honestly have nothing to do for the next few weeks. I bought some cheap 2010 Topps rack packs today to help curve the addiction. I am stopping by my local cardshop tomorrow to smell cardboard. Ive been pullin sidejobs out in the garage to earn some addiction money, forget the crack, i need 2012 topps, I really really dont care much for design, but beggars cant be choosers...BUT CHOOSE THIS BEGGAR! If i dont get my fix soon, I am collecting pogs again!!!!!!!!!!!!!sauerkraut and pogs! BOOOM!

  15. I'll be looking forward to them, as I do with all new sets. Can't wait to see that airbrushed Jose Reyes!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'll buy some packs, probably not a whole bunch. I need to cut back on my pack buying because for the most part I'm a player collector and 1 team collector. Packs don't make sense in those regards.

    ReplyDelete
  17. **Sure, why fight it, it's the only game in town. **

I'll probably be cutting down in other places such as Heritage this year, so flagship will likely be a staple for me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can't wait ! I'm always looking for more Tribe cards.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am pumped up for it. New cards for 2012. Wooooooo!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Since my focus will be on Japanese cards, I won't be opening much (if any) US products. However, I still have to get a factory set and I might chase an insert set or two. But then I'm rethinking my interest in collecting insert sets.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Not collecting it, but I'll be after the Kemp, Kershaw, and Russ Martin cards.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm in. I never buy a box or anything, but I can't help picking up a pack here and there. I also really enjoyijng the redemption codes and trading online last year, hopefully they'll have that again.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I always get sucked in on Topps flagship. I'm sure I will bust a HOB box just to get the Braves.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well (self pimping, I'm going to do a Pack War with 2012 Topps Series 1, so I'm pretty excited for the new cards!

    ReplyDelete
  25. My goal is to start my four year old son on collecting. He's inherited some from me, but with guidance and an allowance forthcoming, I hope to set him down the path to infinite frustration, I mean jubilation.

  26. Heh, my latest post explains my 2012 card buying plan. Let's just say I've started a 12 step program for wax.

    VW: psycop

OH GOD BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING ME NOT BUY WAX

    ReplyDelete
  27. muu...sss..ttt buy wax.....trying to save money too...hmmm

    ReplyDelete
  28. Right now I'm not in the mood, but I'm sure that will change.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Give me the Kalish's, Wakefield's, and Ellsbury's and I'll leave the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'll probably hold off for a while. I'm not desparately excited--probably more so for the inevitable coming discount of 2011 Topps. But those 2012 wood parallels look awesome, even if I have no shot of ever pulling one. I guess, if it ends up having the uniqueness of parallels in 2012--like I enjoyed all the crazy sparklies in 2011--then I'll eventually hop on board.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I cannot wait, i am all in. I will buy a jumbo box of each series and build the base set and all the insert sets. I also will pick up all the giants base, inserts and parallels. I will probably buy too many retail packs as well and accumulate way too many extras. I admit it, i am an addict.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 2012 Topps... it will depend on the design. If I like it, I'll probably buy a hand collated or factory set of of eBay. If I don't like it, I won't buy one.

Either way, I have not intention of busting packs, boxes, or cases of this stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Looking forward to it. Going to spend WAY too much money building it, but at least I know that going in.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm way out. Going in a different collecting direction and the design looks weird. I'll just take the Dodgers please.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am going into the "Sure, why fight it, it's the only game in town." camp. It's the Topps base set, if it was ugly as hell I'd still want to collect it because Topps is baseball cards. Even when they didn't have the monopoly, Topps was still #1 in my mind and probably many others.

That being said, I don't like the look and haven't really liked the look since 2009. The inserts I will probably go nowhere near, except for Rockies of course.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Apathetic, I guess. I need to scale back the collecting budget this year, and the Topps base set doesn't really do anything for me. Looking forward to Heritage though.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have absolutely no plans to pick up any new product in 2012.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I used to buy the Topps factory sets in the past, and I picked one up for 2010 40% off. I think I might try to hold off on 2012 until Update and focus on some other sets, and get the factory set down the road.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I will wait and buy a factory set when it comes out. It cost to much to build a set these days, and I am not into the inserts or relic cards. My money is going toward other parts of my collection.

    ReplyDelete
  40. **No thanks, I'm tired and apathetic towards new cards.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm in, times two. That's right, two sets for me this year.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm in. It's one of the sets I'm going to put together in 2012. The other three being Topps Football, A&G, and probably Heritage.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm in! 1987 Topps Minis! 1987 TOPPS MINIS!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. I know I sound crazy, but I haven't bought a pack in 4 years and I won't be buying this year either.

If the inserts are cool enough, I'll grab some cheap on Ebay or COMC or in dime boxes at a show 3 years from now.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Count me in too, it is the only game in town.... Damn you Upper Deck!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Probably get a blaster from Target, otherwise I'll be picking up all the Twins singles from the LCS or trades, just like every year.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I will grab a few packs here and there. It's a sickness.
    Peace.

    ReplyDelete
  48. 2012 Topps??????? Didn't 2011 just finish????

If there's Royals, I'll take those. Everything else...I'll leave it.

One insert I thought was neat from 2011 Topps Football was the "Gameday" subset. If they replicated that for baseball, I might go after that.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'm in for the Mariners in 2012. The rest is just wasted cardboard to me. It's why I ask for charity M's now instead of buying countless packs.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I guess my plans are "Other". I am trying to keep a better eye on my budget right now and I'm not exactly sure where baseball cards fit in right now. That being said, I have no plans to discontinue the blog, so I'm certain that purchasing more cards will be in the equation somehow.

I'm really tired of thin, white stock, glossy Topps cards right now though.

    ReplyDelete
  51. As long as there are Indians on ballcards, I will be buying them!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm excited to see if any of the new Orioles are included in the set. That's about it!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm in on Series 1. You know Topps is going to introduce something last minute to drive hobby box prices up and make it more difficult to get later. I'm going to wait on Series 2 and Update though.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm unsure about it, but let's be honest, I'll probably buy a ton over time; a bunch in the beginning, not much later on, and a ton later on when it gets cheap.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'll probably just pick up a few singles to avoid the disappointment of spending $75 on a box and getting a Royals hit. No offense to Royals fans,

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'll take a gander. I'll probably it a rack pack and look for loose Giants
