The Mad Scientist wants to know
I'm thinking of starting a Frankenset. I know some of you are working on Frankensets. The first one I remember hearing about was being put together by The King of Ponies.
My original idea was to do a play at the plate Frankenset. I don't think there are enough patp cards to fill out a whole set. I do think I could combine the patp cards with catchers wearing their equipment/in the position. By "in the position" I mean squatting down, generally on vintage cards and usually not wearing equipment.
My question is how many of you are working on Frankensets, what are they and what is your completion percentage? Ok, I guess that's really three questions.
I don't really know if it's worth the time and effort, but it does look like it could be fun. I'm just looking for a little feedback before I hire a hunchbacked assistant and rent out a laboratory to get started.
I'm three cards away from a 700-card Mustache FrankenSet. It was very fun to do.
ReplyDeleteI think the Frankensets are kind of fun idea - and they are fun to follow other people's progress too. Good luck if you choose to attempt one!
ReplyDeleteI actually started researching one earlier today. It is a Mitchell Report frankenset, featuring only players mentioned in Mitchell Report (obviously). I am just in the early stages of looking for stuff, but I think it could be fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing an all-night card Frankenset. It's probably the set I'm pursuing the most casually, so I can't tell you a percentage at all.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback guys.
ReplyDeleteGo for it! PATP cards are awesome!
ReplyDeleteIt's fitting that I come across this post now, almost a month after you wrote it. I just recently started putting together a Red Sox frankenset. I started out just trying to get as many numbers (1-792) as possible. As I proceed, I'm going to try and represent as many different sets and players as possible. Numbers 1-100 were easy to fill and made for some tough decisions at times and things get tougher the higher you go. It's been pretty fun so far and I can't wait to start showing it off on the blog.
