The Long Awaited, Comprehensive Score Rangers Wantlist

This is my Score Texas Rangers Wantlist.

It shows all my needs for Rangers Topps sets from 1988 to 1998.

It's possible I missed some sets and I don't list most parallels. If you have a parallel there is a good chance I need it. I will put cards that are in pending trades in red. Thanks!

Roy Oswalt Signs with the Rangers

I'm just hearing this now as sources told ESPN that the Rangers signed Oswalt. I know talks have been ongoing, but I guess the Roy Halladay injury motivated the Rangers to get it done.

We'll see how it works out. It'll be at least a month before we can find out.

Mystery Solved

The other day I pulled this Lonnie Chisenhall from a 2012 Archives Blaster.  I asked what I thought was an obvious question, who is Lonnie Chisenhall?

I was rewarded with a number of comments, both on the blog and through email, that Chisenhall was a highly touted prospect in the Indians organization.  According to one, he should be a fixture at 3rd for the Indians for a long time.  Apparently, he might have also stolen some computers back in college.

I finally figured out why I haven't heard of Chisenhall.  It's because Topps hasn't annointed him as the Next Big Thing.

Who had a chance to hear about any other prospects the last two years with Stephen Strasburg and Bryce Harper on the horizon?

Topps, also known as the Nationals Publicity Machine, did everything they could to focus the entire hobby around Strasburg and Harper.  I get that Bowman is a prospectors dream, but it would be nice if every other product didn't have to focus on unproven guys like this.   Oh well, that's the name of the game these days.  Products are driven by the mega-case breakers and speculators who don't care about the core of the hobby.  Now, it could be that I'm a little bitter about it, or it could be that I worked 24 of the last 32 hours.

I don't want to be too negative around here, so I'll include this little tidbit in this post rather than write a separate one.   I'm primarily a team collector, but I do like to put together a few sets too.   I'm not going to complete a master set anytime soon, but if you (I'm talkin' to you Topps) are going to include a card as a "base card" and number it in with the set, then don't make it an SP or an SSP or an SSSSSSSP.  They did it with that stupid Strasburg card #661 and now they've done it with the Bryce Harper in the Archives Set.  Word is that the Harper, card #241, is only available 1:15 CASES of Archives.  If that is true, then someone at Topps should be fired right now.  Fired, tarred, feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.  If it's not true, and I'm overreacting, which is highly possible, then I apologize and take back every sour thing I've thought about Topps the last few days (not really, I'm sure they deserve it anyway).

Alright, let's get back to the positivity later tonight.  I hope you're Memorial Day was a good one and you didn't have to work like Night Owl and me.

Going to the Museum

I don't buy high end stuff.  Heck, I don't even buy middle of the road stuff unless I can get it in blaster at Wal-mart or Target.  I don't need the disappointment a high end product can deliver when I can get the same disappointment in a blaster at a fraction of the price.

I am a huge fan of other people taking the depreciation hit when they buy high end boxes.  As of right now, a "box" of 2012 Topps Museum Collection will set you back $229.95 on Blowout.  That gets you 4 packs, with 5 cards in each pack.  Sure, if you get really, really lucky, you can hit something amazing, but more than likely you're going to kick yourself in the ass after you've spent 30 seconds ripping open those 4 packs.

Of course, if you pull a card like this and you're willing to sell it for a great big fat loss, I'm your guy.  I picked this up for a song off Blowout.  It's the only card I bought and as much as I like it, I'd still be ticked if I paid $230 for a pack and this came out.  Do you know how many actual Rangers games I can go to for $230?  Plenty, that's how many.  For the price I paid, I'm very happy to have added this card to my collection.

By the way, I'm in the middle of my second 8 hour shift of the holiday.  Don't be surprised if you see some rambling post later this evening.  That is if the keyboard doesn't short out when I start drooling on it...

Double Your Fun

How would you like a chance to earn an early bonus entry in my June contest?  I thought you would.  It's easy as pie.

My new friend Doug over at Baseball Cards, Sports and Life is holding a contest with the hopes of increasing his followers a little.  All you have to do is go over to his blog, follow him and enter his contest.

Come back this post after you've followed his and leave me a comment saying you're now following Doug and I'll give you a bonus entry into my June Contest.  If you're already following him, you can say that too.

You're going to want to enter the June contest because I'm giving away a Topps Series 2 Blaster.   Everyone that comments here will have an exclusive chance to win a Series 2 Rack Pack as well.

Thanks!

I remember

Memorial Day.

A day set aside to remember the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

The number varies depending on where you look, but one account has the total number of men and women who've made the ultimate sacrifice at 1,343,812. Thank you, every single one of you, for your sacrifice.

I said it last year and the year before that.  I'll be thinking of my shipmate Brian R. who didn't come home with the rest of us.  Rest in peace Brian.

God bless all of those who are currently serving in the Armed Forces around the world.

2012 Archives Blaster #3: Who is Lonnie Chisenhall?

Here is my third and final 2012 Archives Blaster.  I say final because I really don't feel the need to open any more packs.  Of course, that itch may come back and then you'll see another post if I hit anything good.

Or not so good.

Before I show the Rangers from this blaster, I have to ask one question.

Who is Lonnie Chisenhall and why is he included in this product?  The last relevant item I could find about him said he was hit in the face by a pitch last season.

I like the 1954 design and I like this Nelson Cruz.  Nelson wasn't the only Ranger I pulled in this blaster.  I also pulled another Matt Harrison and Elvis Cruz.  I thought I would save you 4 seconds and not show them again.

This blaster had 5 inserts and a hit so it was the best of the 3 by far.

First up is the George Brett Cloth Sticker (1:6).

Next up is the 1968 3D (1:8) Miguel Cabrera.  This one didn't scan as well as the others, but it's still pretty sharp.

My favorite insert out of all three blasters is this Joe Mauer Deckle Edge (1:12).  I've seen a couple of these on other blogs so it's nice to not need to beg for it.

These Rainbow Foil inserts (1:12) scan terribly.  This Ty Cobb isn't really green on the left edge.

My one and only hit of the blaster trio is this Todd Helton.  Sort of a letdown, but tradeable and purple!  The 1956 design looks weird with a jersey swatch stuck on it.  The relics fall 1:30 packs.

Oddly enough, this 1958 Classic Combo is a tougher pull (1:32) than the relic.  I got the George Brett/Eric Hosmer combo.  I pulled a Kemp/Robinson combo from a rack pack I bought the same day as the blasters.

My two Reprints this time were the 1970 Nolan Ryan and 1986 Darryl Strawberry.  If those names sound familiar it's because I pulled the same two Reprints in Blaster #2.

My SPs this were Cecil Fielder and Brett Butler.

That's it.  I'm not done collecting this set, but I'll do my best not to buy anymore.  I've got to start saving for Gint-A-Cuffs IV!
