I went to the post office yesterday to mail a few packages. I pulled into the lot and thought the post office was closed. I walked in and there was NO LINE. Not a single person except that lady behind the counter. My one regret was that I have more packages that weren't quite ready to go and I have to go back today.
Still, it was nice.
And it'll probably never happen again.

Generosity personified
People around the blogosphere are very generous, but none more so than David from Tribe Cards.
I joined the blogging community nearly 4 years ago and David has been giving away mass quantities of cards as long as I can remember. He's currently doing his pack-a-day (at least a pack, sometimes more) giveway and if you're part of it, you know it must be a LOT of work to keep everything straight.
David even gave everyone the opportunity to get some cards from his Gint-A-Cuffs box and I ended up with a couple of minis I needed and these two beauties.
I don't know why there are different types of relic cards in Ginter this year, but I was happy to get this full sized Joe Mauer. The surprise was this next card.
I didn't even realize Jurickson Profar was on the auto checklist so I was really shocked when David sent it. I'll be looking for some Ginter hits to send back to David to repay him for these great cards!

Refractor Patch Auto: Take that Packsearchers!
I opened up a value pack of Topps Platinum Football cards the other day. I hit a pretty good card with the Andrew Luck Pink Ribbon Die-Cut which I sold on Ebay.
I actually liked the cards so much, I went back and bought two more Value Packs. The first one was fairly pedestrian and didn't have anything to write home about. The second one had a pack with one card.
One very thick card.
Score one for me. Some douchy packsearcher missed out on a $2 refractor auto relic!

Thank goodness for cards
It's a good thing I have cards to bring a little joy into my baseball life because the Rangers totally suck right now. They've lost 7 in a row and now trail Oakland by 6 1/2 games.
Say what you want, but I say they are really missing this guy...
They can't seem to generate any offense right now. They have scored two or fewer runs five times this month with two of those games being 1-0 losses. They are 2-11 this month and that just isn't going to cut it in the stretch run. Can they hold onto a wildcard spot? I doubt it at the rate they are going.
Keep the faith? How about you guys freakin' hit the ball.
See, even mini Will is disgusted.
Derek Holland is 0-3 in his last three starts and has seen his ERA go from 3.00 to 3.40. That's a pretty big jump for a guy with nearly 200 innings pitched.
Look at Nelson's eyes. It looks like he's drugged out already. Sorry, I'm just a bitter, frustrated fan right now. I am SUPER HAPPY that the Troll is back to blogging some and he sent me the great cards above a bunch more that I didn't scan. If you newer guys aren't familiar with the Troll, you should go back and read some of his fine work. The guy is an awesome trade partner and wrote some absolutely epic posts.
I also got some great cards from Jim over at The Phillies Room.
A purpleRanger Cub. I hope Olt does well with Chicago. He seemed like a good dude.
I have to say the Target red bordered parallels look great with the Rangers. This Craig Gentry is no exception. I should really try to spend more of my cardboard budget and Target and stay away from Wal-mart.
Hey look, the Rangers are celebrating Cruz's return. Or not. These World Series cards are like salt in a still fresh wound.
I have a pretty healthy stack of these white bordered GQ cards. This is my first Ranger. I think.
How about a mini Darvish? Sounds like a small desert.
Ooh, another GQ relic. It's a grey swatch, but it's new to me. When I say swatch, I mean clubhouse couch cushion material. But not any specific couch, clubhouse or cushion.

A Redemption Card Nightmare
Is there anything worse than a redemption card?
Sticker autos maybe. Crappy designs, crappier customer service departments, horrible collation. They all do their part to take just a bit of the joy out of this hobby, but I think redemption cards are right at the top of the list.
You bust open that sweet "wax" pack hoping for a card or two of your favorite player or team and there it is...a "hit". But it's not really a hit. It's a card that takes the place of your hit. A card you have to "redeem" to hopefully, maybe, one day a month or a year from now, have sent to you.
Or worse.
You get a card of "equal" value because the company couldn't follow through and get the card you were supposed to get.
In the old days (back in 2000 or so), you actually had to MAIL in your redemption card. Snail mail! I know!! The humanity of it all!
Here is where my Redemption Card Nightmare begins...and ends. If you've read my story from the beginning (click here if not) then you know about my problem back in the early 2000s.
When you spend that much money on cards, you're bound to get a redemption or 14. My problem...my nightmare...well, that occurred when the smoke cleared and I started going back through all those cards. I started finding redemption cards. Lots of them. All expired.
I tried to send a few in, but they all came back because they had expired.
Today, I'll share my nightmare with you.
You may remember that in my free-spending days, I bought everything.
This is a 2001 Topps Draft Pick #5 redemption. It turns out it was Jason Richardson. Not a great loss now, as you'll see with most of these.
How about a few hockey redemptions? This was from 2001-2002 Bowman Hockey and was for a Mike Comrie autographed puck. How cool is that? I think we need more redemption for actual "stuff" and not just cards.
I'm not a hockey guy. I want the Dallas Stars to do well, I know who some of the big names are in hockey history, but I don't know who Brad Park is and maybe I should. This redemption is from 2001 Fleer Greats of the Game. If anyone out there collects the New York Rangers, I'll be happy to send you this card. It won't get you anything, but it's sort of a neat collectible and there probably aren't many around.
This 2001/2002 SPX Rookie Redemption would have garnered me a 2001/2002 or 2002/2003 Montreal Canadien rookie #d to 1250. Yawn....
Are you ready for some football? Yea, me neither. This is one of two 2000 UD Encore redemptions I got. The funny thing is this is supposed to be THE card that's autographed because that's what is says on the back, but UD just stuck this sticker on the front since they couldn't get the cards signed. This Kwame Cavil by the way. What, you've never heard of him? Me neither.
The other Encore redemption was for Mike Anderson. I have heard of him.
I didn't know until 5 minutes ago who was the player on this 2002 Donruss Elite "Turn of the Century" autograph redemption. Drumroll please..........Card #131 belongs to Demontray Carter!!!! Yea!!! Wait, who? Never mind. I didn't redeem it so it doesn't matter. If it had been for card #125, I'd be really sad. That is one Mr. Adrian Peterson.
This one could have made me some money locally when I found it. It's for a 2002 Heads Up Football Emmitt Smith bobblehead. I did find these on Ebay and only one had sold for the whopping price of $7.99. If you read the fine print on the card, you'll see you had to mail in $7.95 to cover shipping so that's a profit of $0.04. Sweet!
Let's move on to a little baseball.
I promise you until I was editing the scan of this card a few minutes ago, I thought this was a 2000 Fleer Focus Tim Salmon redemption. I thought that from the time I pulled it. It's actually Troy Glaus.
Genius.
Here we have a 2001 Fleer Showcase Bobby Abreu Sweet Sigs redemption card. That would have made some good trade bait.
I'm keeping this one for my Rangers collection even though I think Alex Rodriguez cards are toxic. What I can't understand is how on earth do you need a redemption for a bat relic card? Seriously?? This was from 2002 Fleer Maximum by the way. Not that it matters.
Finally, we come to the two redemptions I most regret leaving unredeemed.
2002 Upper Deck had these Upper Deck Authenticated redemptions for a variety of items. I pulled this nice Dave Winfield signed 5X7 photo redemption. I kick myself for not redeeming this one, but not as hard as I kick myself for this last one...
That's right. I could have had a Ken Griffey Jr. signed baseball. Sweet spot and everything. Even though he punished my Rangers over the years, I would certainly like to have something like this from one of my favorite non-Rangers. I saw him play numerous times early in his career when I lived near Seattle and I have to say, I wish more young players played the way he did.
I did look up a UDA Griffey Jr. ball and they sell for about $65 on Ebay.
So there you have it. My redemption nightmare. Time has proven that most of these items aren't worth much, but at the time, they could have been hot stuff. Unfortunately, I never bothered to find out.

I've been wanting to open one of those pack of Chipz since I saw a few on the interwebs. I haven't seen them at Wal-mart so I headed off to Target to see what I could find.
I plunked down a ten spot for 5 packs of Chips and another $6 for two packs of Pinnacle. I don't like Panini and I didn't really like the cards I saw, but I like to open a pack of just about everything. One thing I did like a lot was this card...
If you haven't seen one of these Clear Vision cards, you don't know what you're missing. The scan does not do it justice. This is one of the nicest cards I've seen in a LONG time and that's saying something because I'm a logo snob. That's right, I need logos on my cards. I'll definitely be looking to get any Rangers that have Clear Vision cards.
One thing I noticed in the first pack was a pair of Poseys. I thought they were dupes until I noticed that the one on the right has a little Artist's Proof circle in the bottom left corner. That is the ONLY difference from the regular card. I don't get it honestly. It's just not different enough, but I guess it'll make player collectors and set collectors a little crazy.
The first pack of Chipz had two Rangers. I was "stoked" again...hats off to you if you get the reference. I think the Neftali Feliz is a glow in the dark one and the Andrus is a regular one. Two Rangers means I got 18 that aren't Rangers. I think I may insert those in random trade packages unless anyone has any Rangers Chipz to trade.
