Have you ever been to a World Series game?
I mentioned the other day that my wife had given the OK to buy two tickets to one of the World Series games in Texas. While I am touched by her desire to see my life-long fandom rewarded, I just can't see spending upwards of $850 to buy two tickets. That's a lot of money to me and probably is to most of you too.
If I had been able to buy some of the tickets at face value, as so few real fans get too, I would have been there in a flash.
I'm still debating and don't know what I'll do yet.
So the question remains, have you ever been to a World Series game and if so, when was it?
This one is easy to answer....I've been to every single Cubs World Series game that's been played in my lifetime. Of course, since I was born in 1961, that would make a grand total of 0 games...but I will be taking out a second mortgage to pay for tickets when they finally do make it to the World Series!
ReplyDeleteNope, I couldn't get tickets in 2000 and I'd never even spend face price to go to watch the Yankees outside of another Subway Series.
ReplyDelete1997 and 2003 luck for me that i got tickets to both at face valve.... And its something i will never forget....Only if you get them at face valve homie, 850 is some hard coin but its a thing that only happens once in a life time. I say F!@# it and go for it.... If not you'll regret down the road. Just don't ask for any X-mas gift. :)
ReplyDeleteI was in the same predicament but on top of the astronomical price for tickets I would also have had to pay for a plane ticket. My awesome wife was way supportive though and I pretty much had to convince her that the price was too high. Too bad there wasn't a lottery this year for the tickets. If you do go I'd shoot for game 5 and a chance to see Cliff Lee.
ReplyDeleteI have been fortunate enough to go to 1 World Series game....it was game 4 of the 1984 World Series. My sister got 4 tickets from work and along with her husband she took my dad and me. We sat in the upper deck stands in right field in Tiger Stadium. (Which if I'm not mistaken, the Ballpark at Arlington has a pretty good replica...over hang included). It was one of the best games of my life!!! I was also at the clinching games of the 2006 ALDS & ALCS.
ReplyDelete$850 is alot to spend but my wife has spent serious coinage for Championship tickets to baseball (2006) and basketball (2004) with NO regrets. Plus...they were filming a DVD of the Tigers 2006 season while she was at game 1 and she is in the DVD. So, who knows...they could be doing the same for the Rangers and you could wind up on the DVD.
I have been to a few... 1986 and 1987 (thanks Mom!) Again in 1991 and also 1997 and 2003. I saw the end of a game in 2008 for FREE. I went to the stadium to tail gate and hang out and watched the game start at the bar next door. After the 6th inning I wandered to the Trop and saw an unguarded entrance and walked in. They lost, but it was awesome! I didn't sit, just stood and watched, but since I could barely afford face value at that point (wife and I went throughout the ALDS and ALCS and we were out of money) it was amazing. I would say go to the Ballpark and soak up the atmosphere. That in itself is amazing. Plus after the 7th inning, it is often fair game... Oh, of the 8 games I have been to - the team I was rooting for won 5 times! I have never seen the Rays or the Pirates win a World Series game, but growing up in areas without MLB my taste in teams changed alot. I loved them Twins though and I got caught up in Fish Fever in 1997. Go Rangers!!!
ReplyDeleteI probably could've tried to get to a WS game when the Tigers faced St. Louis in 2006. I was even fairly confident that Detroit would prevail, though in retrospect that was crazy talk, and it's probably a good thing I didn't pay to witness what Detroit did. Still, I'm sure it's the best type of baseball game to be at, so I've gotta try it some day, assuming I can still afford a ticket then.
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in a previous comment, I went to Games three and four of the 2001 World Series at Yankee Stadium. Just an incredible experience.
ReplyDeleteI have never had the fortune of getting to a World Series game. The closest I would say is Sunday, October 8, 2000 when the Mets won the Divisional Series vs the Giants and won the right to face the Cardinals in the NLCS and eventually losing to the Yankees in the World Series.
ReplyDeleteI'm in Calgary man... I've never even been to regular game. Unless you count the Cannons or the Vipers.
ReplyDeleteNo, unfortunately the closest I have come is an NLDS game.
ReplyDeleteNever been to a WS game. One of my friends from school was at game 7 of the '82 series and brought a chunk of turf from the outfield to school the next day. That's as close as I've been.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could say yes but the Royals haven't been there for a few years! Hopefully one of these days
ReplyDeleteNever been to a WS game, but I wish that I would have had the opportunity. Either a WS game or an All-Star game would be great. The closest I have ever been to an All Star game was when I attended a Yankees/Rangers game at the Ballpark the Friday before the All-Star game that year.
ReplyDeleteThe first two sentences of the comment above goes for me, too. I've never even come close to an All-Star or a World Series game. A trip to Wrigley is higher on my list than a WS or an All-Star game. All-Star game is last on the list of three, but I'll probably go to one of those before I go to a WS game. Cost is a factor, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a world series or even a playoff game.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to a world series game. I will dream about someday, though.
ReplyDeletealthough i have never been to a world series game, i have lived in a city while the team was in the world series, Angels and Red Sox. I have to say, Boston went nuts compared to Anaheim.
ReplyDeleteI have only been to three regular season games in my whole life (two of which were this year), and never to a playoff game. I went to Cal Ripken's second-to-last game, and two Nats-Mets games this year. Pretty awesome games though, the Cal game speaks for itself, one Nats game had Strasburg pitching and a Pudge walkoff, and one had the Mets dodge a late Nats comeback with a pickoff.
ReplyDeleteNope. I love Fenway Park, but one of the downsides is that the capacity of the park is low and it is next to impossible to get tickets to regular games let alone anything in the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteThe contest is closed. Feel free to still leave an answer to the question.
