I need a little help

I need some scanner recommendations.

It's getting to the point that blogging is no fun without a scanner, so I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a new one.

If you have a scanner that you really love, or really hate, let me know. I'd like to get the opinions of some people who use their scanners primarily for cards.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

  1. I have an HP Photosmart C4680 - I think it came with my girlfriend's laptop. It's fine - 9 cards at a time and all that jazz. My only issue is we lost the disc so it won't scan to my computer but I can make my computer tell it to scan. This stinks though as the scanner can't tell objects this way, so I have to resize each and every card I scan, even if I just scan one thing. So that's a bummer.

But if you took the time to fix that/had the cd it's not too bad.

  2. These days I think pretty much any scanner is going to be OK. And you may be better off getting an all-in-one. It might be the same cost (I haven't priced scanners lately) and it definitely saves table space. If you aren't planning on doing any super-detailed publishing work, you can't really go wrong. (And the HP all-in-one OfficeJet 6210 does a decent job of recognizing image sizes and cropping for me.)

And, SpastikMooss, I've lost my HP cds a few times (or tossed them in a giant stack of software and didn't feel like looking) but I have always been able to find drivers and software for HP products from their website. You might want to check that out (I actually searched google with the model name and number to find it easier).

  3. I have a HP scanjet 3970. It's about 5 years old i guess. It was pretty cheap at the time and has worked pretty decently ever since. Recently it's not working very well. It makes a clacking sound when I scan cards. It sounds like it threw a rod. I think any day know it will start spewing antifreeze. I'm guessing any old scanner will do unless you're really needing something nice.

  5. I use a HP deskjet F4280. The thing gets a dang workout and keeps on ticking. My only complaint... odd color scans of chrome cards (I am not alone there though).

  6. I use a Canon MP490. It's an All-in-One and I love it! The software that comes with it auto-crops every thing I scan so that saves me a ton of time when posting. Plus, it does great as a printer because it doesn't eat a ton of ink!

  7. I use a Canon Canoscan 4200F. I love it. Comes with good software and scans in good colour.

All I can say, is buy a brand name. Don't go generic to save $20...

  9. I bought a Canon all-in-one MP480 a couple of years ago when Circuit City was going out of business. It's probably not great, but it's just fine as a baseball card scanner/occasional printer. Don't be afraid to go cheap if you're just doing it for blogging and nothing professional.

  10. If you dabble in photography, I might suggest one of the HP Photosmart line. It can print regular documents and photos and can scan to both JPG and PDF. Plus, at least some of the line is wireless if you have such a network set up at home.

  11. My printer/scanner doesn't scan cards well, and I didn't want to buy one just for my blog, so I use my camera which has a digital macro function.

this is the bomb... also has a wireless scanner, so you can instantly upload images to your computer

I paid $59 shipped 2 months ago, so shop around for this model and you should be able to get it under $70
