The REAL Opening Day...A Special Edition Contest

After posting this and reading the comments, I have to agree that today is the real 2010 Opening Day. After all, only one game on the schedule hardly constitutes opening day, unless of course your team is playing in that one game.

Now that most teams will be on the field today, I decided to have an extra contest. You already know that the April contest didn't even require a comment to enter (well, that's not true, but you didn't know that until after the fact).

This is actually a two part contest. Part one may be over sooner rather than later and part two will take a while.

What do these people have in common?

That's right. They're all managers. Of course Jerry isn't managing the White Sox, but I didn't have a shot of him in Mets attire. Warm up your predicting skills and leave a comment predicting which MLB manager will get fired first. SOMEONE will be "relieved" of their managing duties at some point, so who do you think it will be?

Managers from ALL teams are eligible to be picked, not just the 4 guys above.

You get one guess and the same manager may be picked by more than one person. All people who predict the correct manager will be entered into a randomizer to determine the winner. The winner will receive a pack or 5 and some cards from their team/player/wantlist collections as I see fit. I'll leave entries open until Wednesday night at least.

Stay tuned for part 2 of the contest later today.

  1. I'm torn between Manuel or any small market club (A's, Royals). I'll go with him because if the Mets don't right that ship within the first two months, you know Manual's getting his butt fired first.

  2. My guess is Ron Washington. If the Rangers don't start off strong then he'll be gone faster than his supply on a Saturday night.

  3. I am also torn between Manual or Fredi gonzalez. I will go with Manual because it is New York, and they expect results. I think management in Florida is going to be a little more patient with Fredi, but the seat will be hot for him if they get off to a bad start.

  4. I'm going with Ron Washington. He's on thin ice due to the nose candy, and I don't think the Rangers are going to get off to a very good start (which is probably the last thing you want to hear - sorry)

I wish it would be Dusty Baker, but he's not my pick because the Reds are going to be just good enough for him to keep his job. :(

  5. I'm going with Ron Washington too. Hopefully the Mets will do well enough to keep Manuel around, not because I love him, but because I want the Mets to do well.

  6. I'm rooting for Fredi Gonzalez to get canned so the Braves can pick him up to take over for Bobby next year.

  7. Sadly for my Mets, I feel like they will not keep things afloat for themselves or Jerry. I'm picking Jerry to be gone.

  8. This is a tough one. I'll go with Dusty Baker just to be different.

  9. Ozzie Guillen should be the first to go, but he may not be.

  10. so many to choose from... I'll go Dusty Baker. I hope the mets keep Manuel so they won;t be a threat this year.

  11. I have to agree with Night Owl, Blackie is a holdover from the previous administration and if the Pads falter he will be the sacrifice.

  12. The Mets aren't smart enough to fire Manuel first, so I'll go with Dusty Baker.

  13. Brad Mills of the Astros...just because no one has said him yet.

  14. I will go with Ron Washington also. Between the new ownership situation, high expectations, and off the field problems he is surely on a short leash. This is also the last year on his contract so it won't be a big money hit either.

  15. I'm thinking it's Dave Tremblay in Baltimore

  16. I'm hoping that it is Trey Hillman and Dayton Moore goes with him.

  17. It's going to be my namesake Bud Black.

  18. I'll go with John Russell because he hasn't been picked yet.

  20. Once again I am late to the party... My first choice would be Jerry Manuel which seems to be pretty popular. Dude's days were numbered as soon as he took the job. I can't think of an original response... Hillman, Russell, Black... they've all been taken. Damn I was going to switch to Brad Mills but he is taken too. Damn! I will switch to Charlie Manuel. It could happen.
