A little play at the plate help if you please
One of the cards I got from Marcus over at All the Way to the Backstop was this 1991 Fleer Damon Berryhill play at the plate.
I'm pretty sure that is Jose Offerman coming to the plate, but I can't find a game where they both played. I'm not one of those eagle eyed bloggers that can tell you what stadium is in the shot just because of the dugouts, but I'm guessing this is in L.A. based on the Cubs road unis. I checked the box scores for all the Cubs/Dodgers games in 1990. No luck. Anyone have an idea? I guess it could be a Spring Training game, but I'm stumped.
I did notice something funny on the back of the card. At some point, someone thought Berryhill needed a beard and drew one in with a pencil. That's a nice "customization" and I almost missed it.

I'm guessing it's a 1989 shot, and that's Mike Davis on May 6, 1989.
ReplyDeleteOfferman was number 30, nothing in the 20's. Berryhill didn't play the Dodgers in 1990, so I agree it may have been 1989. But when Mike Davis scored on May 6, 1989, there wasn't a play at the plate according to the box score.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to say it was the next day, May 7, 1989. Davis (#20) was thrown out at the plate in the third inning.
I forgot that I did that! I think we went to a Padre game and the Cubs won, so when I got home, I "customized" some of my Cubs cards. I remember being especially upset at Derrick May, an outfielder for Chicago, but I don't remember why. I don't think any of his cards survived.
