I think I was happiest with just about any Stadium Club base card. It's been a long time since I could claim such excitement over base cards. If I had to pick one, I think I'd go with the Big Papi Stadium Club selfie with Obama.
My favorite card was the Troy Tulowitzki SP from 2014 Topps Archives. It is thus far the only Rockies player to be depicted on 1986 Topps, my favorite set ever. Well the only Rockies player depicted on a set not made by me anyways.
The Shigeo Nagashima autographed card from the Treasures set that was issued last year here in Japan. I held one in my hands yesterday although I don't own one!
Logan Thomas Patch Auto #/49 from a box of 2014 Flair Showcase. Pulling a hit from your team is awesome. Pulling a case hit of the one player you collect in the product is incredible.
My favorite was a 2014 Topps card of Jeremy Hellickson. Nothing special about the card for most people, but for me it's special because I hadn't bought baseball cards in over 15 years. This past summer I decided to get back into the hobby, pulled that card out of a pack and just a few days later I was fortunate to meet him and have him sign it for me.
I love the B.J. Raji 2014 Topps card. What's not to love about a gigantic dude flying through the air to drill a QB? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61SPgPgchXL._SX425_.jpg
My favorite card of the year is Andrew Cashner's Bowman card (hometown parallel). It has three things that I love: favorite current player, throwback uniform (90's), and the Texas flag in the background.
Weirdly, I'd say it was the 2014 Topps Max Scherzer Sparkle short print, because I pulled it in the first new card purchase that I made in over 25 years.
Easily the 2014 Topps Winter Olympics Meryl Davis auto I pulled out of my first of several discount blasters of the product I picked over the summer & early fall.
The first one I could thing of was this quad relic (my first one) given to me from a contest on Bob Walk The Plank. Its a 2014 Topps Museum Collection 4-Piece relic featuring Ian Kinsler, Yu Darvish, Elvis Andrus, and Adrian Beltre. Here's a link for an idea of the card: http://www.comc.com/Cards/Baseball/2014/Topps_Museum_Collection_Four-Player_Primary_Pieces_Quad_Relics/PPFQR-23/Elvis_Andrus_Yu_Darvish_Adrian_Beltre_Ian_Kinsler/7291968
2014 Bowman Is Back Mike Trout Silver Diamond Refractor.
ReplyDeleteHas to be Mariano Rivera's last Topps base card...the one where he is jogging in from the bullpen. Just a very nice, fitting last card.
ReplyDelete2014 Topps Update Oscar Taveras Rookie Debut
ReplyDeleteStadium Club Jackie Robinson. I posted a picture on the end-of-the-year extravaganza.

Boo if you want to but Allen and Ginter #210, Anthony Bourdain.
ReplyDeletehttp://canthavetoomanycards.blogspot.com/2014/07/allen-ginter-guilty-pleasure.html
Easily the 'fro-tastic 2014 Topps Coco Crisp.
ReplyDeleteI'll go with the card I was happiest to pull from a pack, 2014 Topps Opening Day Mascots #M10, Dinger!
ReplyDeletehttp://infieldflyrulecards.blogspot.com/2014/05/the-extra-pack-comes-through.html
CP-23 Chase Utley, Philadelphia Phillies Commemorative patch card. I got it off eBay, and posted :

ReplyDeleteOff the top of my head, I'd say Nolan Ryan's 2014 Stadium Club base card. Not everyday you see a horse and a stable on a baseball card.
ReplyDelete2014 Topps Mark DeRosa. Where he's catching the football.
ReplyDeleteI don't own one yet, but my favorite card was the Topps Update All-Star card of Anthony Rizzo, US98.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice candid shot of him enjoying the homerun derby.
The Shigeo Nagashima autographed card from the Treasures set that was issued last year here in Japan. I held one in my hands yesterday although I don't own one!
ReplyDelete2014 Series One Dee Gordon. Fantastic bunt shot.
ReplyDeleteTough one.
ReplyDeleteThe Gattis Stadium Club card is pretty epic. The Taveras "Take A Bow" card from Update might be the most timing-appropriate card ever made.
Those would be my vote (I can't pick one over the other).

ReplyDeleteI was really digging the Roberto Clemente out of Stadium Club.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to echo Nick and vote for Coco Crisp's 2014 Topps card.

Lots of great cards in 2014, but probably my favorite is the 2014 Stadium Club Lou Gehrig card with Babe Ruth.
ReplyDelete2014 Topps Wilmer Flores Auto base acquired from a trade with Brads Blog..
ReplyDeleteI will go with my best pull, a Cespedes auto out of Topps.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite card was a surprise Johnny Podres autograph that Matt from Bob Walk The Plank sent to me.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, thanks Matt!
The Topps Trophy Manu-relic #/25. Do I need to say what player?
ReplyDeleteYou can see it here: http://thejuniorjunkie.blogspot.com/2014/09/rookie-cup-roundup-griffeys-of-2014.html

My favorite non-Padre card of the year was Chris Denorfia's update card, for which I have the acetate parallel (/10).

One of the first ones to pop into my head, and definitely one of my faves of 2014:

ReplyDeleteI'm going with Bip Roberts' 2014 Archives Fan Favorites auto.
ReplyDeleteEasily the 2014 Topps Winter Olympics Meryl Davis auto I pulled out of my first of several discount blasters of the product I picked over the summer & early fall.
ReplyDeleteOh, and the Meryl Davis relic I pulled out of the last of said discount blaster run takes second place. :D
