June Contest: Question 2

If you missed out on the first question or the explanation for the June contest, please go here.

If not, then you know what to do. Ok, that was kind of mean wasn't it? I'll give another brief explanation.

The June contest consists of 6 questions, the first of which was asked on June 1st. The other five will be posted this week while I'm away. Feel free to answer as many or few questions as you want. You get one entry into the randomizer for each answer.

Question 2 is a two parter. One for bloggers and one for not bloggers. You know who you are and I know that's not grammatically correct.

For you bloggers, what is your favorite part about blogging? It could be many things, so I'll leave it to you to pick what suits you best.

For the non-bloggers, why are you still a non-blogger? What's holding you back? I got started because of the encouragement of a few of the best bloggers out there. I'm not in their category, but if you need a little encouragement, you got it. Go start a blog and when you do, make sure you leave a link on one of my posts so I can follow you.

As for my answer to the first part of Question 2, I'll save it for after the contest ends. Here's a hint though.

This beauty came to me from Bud over at First Day Issue. Thanks Bud.

  1. My favorite part of blogging is the community. I enjoy collecting cards, but in my neck of the woods it was a purely solitary endeavor. With blogging I found a few fellow nerds that I can share my hobby with. It has increased the fun factor exponentially. That last sentence should prove my nerdiness.

  2. Even as a kid, I loved to share what I knew and loved about the hobby with others. At card shows, I used to impress some sellers that a teenager would be as deep into cards from before he was born. As a blogger, I can do that with a much larger audience.

Plus, those who don't share my enthusiasm about old cardboard can simply go to another site, without having to come up with a polite way to say, "so, are you gonna actually buy something or move on to another table?"

  3. First of all thats a great looking card! I enjoy blogging because of the community as well, and the fact that you can complete sets w/o having to buy so much product, especially flagship.

  4. Don't get me wrong, the community is nice. But I like the people, from the snarkey comments left on my blog, to the informative tidbits from other blogs, to the trades, WOW, the trades. I've said it before, the number of you bloggers that are willing to send me cards in the mail, sometimes just for the reaction is just mind-bloggling. I know individuals make up this community, but the individuals are what makes this community GReat!!

  5. For me it is the trades too, I have always loved trading, even as a kid, but it was always so hard to find people to trade with before blogging.

  6. I dig the trades. Blogging also helps me legitimize card-collecting to my wife. That way it is more than just myself holed up in a closet with a few thousand cards. It's also an outlet for my humor, which 9 times out of 10 is lost on my wife.

  7. My favorite part of blogging is the contact it allows me to have with other bloggers. There are no collectors in my area and blogging allows me to talk with other people who share my interests, though writing, commenting, tweeting, trading, etc.

  8. I blog for more than just my card collecting Jones, but I guess my favorite thing is that I'm a part of the "community".

  9. I blog because I like to write. I'm a writer professionally, but don't get to write there like I once did, so doing it on the blog makes me feel "complete," so to speak.

Outside of that, the interaction with fellow collectors and the crazy amount of trades and generosity keeps me going.

  10. I like reading what others have to say. This hobby has sooo many aspects to it, I like seeing a differing viewpoint or personal collection.

that and when i write about something, other people sometimes pretend to give a damn. That's nice.

  11. My favorite part of blogging is being part of such a great community. I can post that I need a certain card and instantly get a response!

  12. Came for the trades, stayed for the community. I think the 2 go hand in hand.

  13. I love sharing my weird collections with people and having some people actually show interest in them. Like my cup collection: it's really odd and random, but a lot of people think it's fun. I love that aspect of the blogging community - without everyone I would just had this oddball collection that sat in a binder and never was looked at by anyone other than me.

  14. Mostly, I love the trading. I was able to complete sets I wouldn't have been able to otherwise. Also, I enjoy being able to brag about some of the amazing pulls I have had to people who actually care and know how big of a deal some of these cards are.

  15. I love cards and doing stuff with cards (trading, discussing, mocking...). Where I live, I find it hard to find anyone else who is interested. So I turned online. In blogs, I found the ability to be involved and when I felt the need to contribute more, I started blogging myself. But other than that, it is the opportunity to trade!!!

  16. I like the easy ability to show off my cards to people who like them. It's also led to a lot of trades which I otherwise wouldn't be able to do. It's fun to keep my eyes open for future trade bait and them post it to see who bites.

  17. Trades... but mainly for being able to see a card that I was "meh" about get traded to someone who posts it and thinks it is a "wow" card. Nice to see my cards find homes in others' collections. Makes all the postage worth it!

  18. My favorite part of blogging is trading cards and getting to know people that share similar interests. I get to chat with or even meet people that have a passion for collecting and watching baseball.

  19. It's tough to pick just one thing, but posting something that starts a discussion is an aspect of the hobby I really love.

Getting feedback from the rest of the community - whether it's something I need help with, an opinion on a pickup or an eBay issue, or just a general comment - I love interacting with everyone else.

  20. I read through the comments, and there's an overwhelming majority of people who talk about community, and I have to agree. There was a point early last year where I packed up all my souvenirs that were displayed on shelving into boxes. It was because I had nobody to share it with. I think that's what blogging has provided for me, the ability to share my thoughts and my goodies with others who have the same interests.

  21. My favorite thing about blogging is that it has helped give my collection a direction. I get to take in and contribute to the collective knowledge and opinions of tons of other folks and make my collecting decisions in an informed manner. I don't miss the days of buying a little of everything to find what I like! -Andy

  22. I just recently took the jump into blogging after being a reader for about two years. What held me back was my constant fear of not having enough time. But there's always a spare second here or there, and my enjoyment (growing obsession) with the hobby wouldn't allow me to sit on the bench any longer.

So my favorite part: That's easy. Coot Veal's son contacted me and sent me an autographed card. The connections you don't expect to make are what make blogging great. And that's goes for meeting new bloggers, trading, commenting, creating a community.

  23. The best part for me is all the awesome people I have met along the way here. I started my blog for trading purposes but that quickly changed when I started to meet all the way cool folks out there. Thanks to all who have made this blogging thing such a rewarding experience and I hope it continues for a lon, long time. I also love the fact that I can share the great cards I come across with people who really are interested in them.

  24. I would say that my favorite part is just interacting with other collectors. Because of work, I don't have nearly as much time as I used to, but it is still my favorite part.

  25. Trades are cool but I have such a niche collection trading can be limited. I like showing off some of the cards I get signed and sharing my experiences with autographs. Being able to share what I have with others means my collection lives outside the autograph binders and monster boxes.

  26. I get to write whatever I want, and people actually read it. It don't get any better than that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love to read what other collectors have to say,I enjoy seeing cards that I have never seen before.Trading is a bonus,I also blog so everyone can see what a UK collector is doing with his time.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Part of what I love about blogging is the generosity. I feel like I try to give a little more value in a trade, but often I received cards and the fellow blogger threw in even more...and gave me way more value expecting nothing in return.

It's also fun to see what other bloggers collect. Some are set builders. Some focus on player collections. And I find it interesting and read their posts even if it's for cards/teams I don't collect because I love seeing their enthusiasm and excitement.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Best part about blogging? Hmmm... probably learning more about the cards themselves. That, and the fellow bloggers that have become my friends.

    ReplyDelete
  30. As someone who collects relatively obscure/rare cards, even within the hobby, the thing I enjoy most is the random interactions I've had with fellow Orioles/autograph/baseball fans. It's also cool when a relative of a former Oriole contacts me too.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love blogging as I get to show off some of my collection

    ReplyDelete
  32. I blog because I love the networking and trading. It is as simple as that. Before my blog I was able to complete one trade even though I had read card blogs for over a year. After starting the blog I've done dozens and dozens of trades in a few short months.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Easy - the community here and the ability to easily make trades. I feel like I'm on the school bus again 30 years ago, making deals.

It's also great to realize just how many people love the same hobby I love - but are approaching it from thousands of different angles (teams, players, sets, brands, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Trading is great, I wish I were less lazy about it....

I also love writing and putting an idea to the virtual paper and hope that someone out there reads it.

Life has not been overly conducive to this the last 6 months, so I've definitely been posting less....but my drafts folder is huge.

I also love the reading of other people's blogs even more, I learn something new or see something interesting everyday.

  35. My favorite part of blogging so far as simply been the easy interaction with other people out there that love collecting cards. It makes it much easier to set build and find cards of players or teams you collect.

  36. My favorite part of blogging is The Zone. Anyone who writes on at least a semi-regular basis knows The Zone. Oh lawd I love That Zone.

I sadly have not been seeing much of The Zone lately which is why my posts have been more sporadic.
