Not exactly what I was expecting

Let me start by saying this is NOT a complaint post. I'm not here to bad mouth Topps or question their thinking.

I realized the availability date had passed for the "Topps 60th Anniversary Commemorative Set" that you get for digging 45 rings on the Diamond Giveaway site. I requested the set and lo and behold, it arrived yesterday.

I opened it up and here is what I got:

Again, I'm not complaining about getting a complete 2011 Topps Factory Set. It's all 660 cards from Series 1 and 2.

What I don't understand is Topps describing it as an "Exclusive Commemorative 60th Anniversary Edition Complete Set." This appears to be a regular factory set. I was just assuming, and we all know how dangerous that can be, that this was something special Topps created for the Diamond Giveaway promotion.

The best thing about getting this is that my youngest son, the one who has never shown any interest in cards, actually has a stack of 2011 Topps on his bookshelf. I think I'll give this to him and let him crack it open and put it in a binder.

By the way, the shipping on this was free. Does anyone know if Topps is charging for shipping on the diamond die cut cards or is it just the regular cards?

  1. Mine is on back order, so all I hjave to say is WTF? Don't they know you had to buy a buttload of Series 1 and 2 just to get to 45 rings? And the prize is a box of cards you already have?

It is like making the grand prize of a hot dog eating contest a free hot dog.

  2. You have to pay shipping your diamond die cut cards unless it's the special black diamond ones.

One of the reasons I didn't care much about the rings is none of the prizes were incentive enough to care about the rings.

  3. That's crazy. At least you can find a use for the set. Whenever it's cracked open if there are any of the red/245 of Astros in it please let me know.

I hope you're safe from the fires up there. There is the one here near me but luckily it isn't posing much danger for my area yet.

  4. Is really just a regular set, or a regular set's box? Maybe the cards all have a special stamp or something on them. This will be interesting to know, since I'm at 30 rings and I was expecting to hit 45 with Update.

  5. Ryan is right I believe. I think everyone assumes they are just regular cards so they don't open them but someone on eBay did and is selling team sets. Minor stamp but it is something.

  9. There was a deadline for claiming the factory set? I had no clue about that. Isn't this promotion continuing through the update series? Oh well, guess I won't pick up that box of series 2 jumbos now after all.

  10. There is a deadline, but it should be on or after the expiry date for entering codes. It should be possible to claim this for quite some time. I'm counting on Update to get me up to 45 rings.
