9th entry opportunity for some free Ginter

This will probably wrap this thing up.

Here we got with round 9.

So far the hints have been:

1.  It's not a female.

2.  It IS a baseball player.

3.  It is a current major leaguer.

4.  It is an A.L. player.

5.  The subject is NOT in the A.L. East.

6.  The subject is NOT in the A.L. West.

Your hint for this round is that the subject has only been guessed twice today, once in each of the last two rounds.  Only the number hasn't been correct.
Good luck!

Your rules reminder and checklist...

Here's how it will work.

All you have to do is guess the red ink auto hand numbered out of 10 that I pulled from a box of 2013 Allen & Ginter.

1.  You get one guess on this post.

2.  You have to guess the subject AND the numbering out of 10 correctly.  For example, Wolf Blizter 1/10.  (It's not Wolf Blitzer, I'm just watching CNN and he's on so that was the first name that came to mind.)  You must get BOTH the subject and the number to win.  Don't give up yet.  Read # 3.

3.  At the top of each hour I will make another post with some sort of hint and you get another guess.  The hints will help narrow down your choices.

4.  When the new post goes up, I'll close guesses on the previous posts so check back often.

5.  I'll do the top of the hour posts until I get off work at 11 PM Central time tonight.  Hopefully I'll give enough hints that someone will get it before then.  If not, I'll randomize all entrants once for each time they entered and get a winner that way.

6.  The prize will be a 2013 Ginter rack pack (as if a 14 card pack qualifies as a rack pack) and whatever else I choose to throw in.

Here is a checklist of the players and non-players you have to choose from so good luck!

THE NEXT POST WILL BE UP AT 8 PM CENTRAL TIME!

  1. If I missed a guess for Shields, Diamond or Bauer somewhere, this will be REALLY funny.

    1. I wrote a list of the guesses from each post, and I'm pretty sure only Garcia fit the last hint.

    2. But I admit I was in a hurry to beat the flurry of comments I knew was coming, so my list may have been faulty.

    3. I did the same as you and came to the same conclusion. I think we're okay.

  2. Yep, just doublechecked. Still worth a chuckle.

  4. Should make for an interesting 10pm post if no one else jumps in on this one

  5. I really need to go food shopping, youse guys!

  6. Best part about it: someone can still guess incorrectly

  8. So if no one gets it, now that we all know the answer, is it gonna be a dogpile at 10 Central, or are you gonna random it?

  9. Need more cardboard should have it cause 3/10 was guessed at #8, unless we're all wrong...

    1. There's still one number that hasn't been guessed.

    2. Yep, it's on my other side!! Missed that one.

    3. I seem to always lose when I flip a coin.

  10. I do think we'll get a winner before then (it's taken everything in my power not to yell at my Twitter followers, but I'll keep it fair).

The one thing that'd make a dogpile less entertaining is that the timestamp on comments doesn't include the time in seconds.

  11. If no one gets in the right answer by 10, I'll do another post and the first correct comment to show up will win and EVERYONE else that enters within the first two minutes after the post goes up will be entered into a randomizer to win a second rack pack. Fair enough?

  12. Way more than fair. Thanks for holding the contest, by the way, and congrats on the Avisail auto! Nice guy to have ink of, especially numbered that low.

  13. Congrats, Chris!

OUR LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER

I'm goin' to buy some food now.

  14. I would have felt like I cheated in a way since it was the only number left...but I did pick Avisail last round on my own so I had 2/10 shot at it :)

  15. Just for giggles, I'm going to randomize all you guys that commented on this post since you hung in there with me.

  16. I know the mathematical odds, but what are the odds of that happening?

    1. Every single wrong number being picked before the right one was picked. There has to be some kind of karmic justice in there somewhere.

    2. If I'm counting that checklist correctly, each person guessing had a 1 in 730 chance of getting the answer right. I'm not going to do the math on how many people were guessing and how that affects the odds that we'd narrow it down to one pick, as I need to go food shopping RIGHT NOW. Feel free to, though!
