Does this happen to you?

There are a handful of blogs out there that I can't visit.

It's not because I don't want to and it's not because I can't click on the links.

It's because everytime I try to open one of the posts on these blogs, it causes my computer to go haywire.

Heartbreaking Cards of Staggering Genius, or The Ron Washington Appreciation Society as he is temporarily called, is one of them. Sully Baseball is another. There are others that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Every time I click on these blogs, my computer starts opening multiple tabs of the same blog page. It will open dozens of pages if I allow it. I immediately have to log off the computer and start over. It's very frustrating. I'm also missing out on some quality blogs, but I don't know what the problem is or how to prevent/fix it.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. White Sox Cards used to do this for me. No idea why. One day it stopped. I was happy because then my computer stopped crashing.

Only blog that's ever done that to me though. Heartbreaking Cards works awesome for me.

  2. nope. some are agonizingly slow to load, like Night Owl, but that's about it.

  3. I used to have that problem with Cardboard Junkie. I think I just had a bug or something, though, since it hasn't happened since the last time my computer crashed.

  4. It happens to me too but it seems to be random. It doesn't usual happen to the same blog twice. Also it only happens when I use a computer in work and not my own computer.

  5. What browser do you use?

  6. It happens to me at random also. (and only from work) If you let it keep going it will stop opening them at 56 pages and then you can close them all and it wont do it again. (for a while that is)

I also have problems commenting sometimes. Only on blogs that don't take you to a seperate page to comment. (sorry but yours is the worst about this Troll is another) Blogs that open a new page (like Night Owl or Dayf never have problems.

I have the same speed problem as Captain on some blogs. Heartbreaking, Troll, Night Owl, and Cardboard Problem take forever to open some days.

  7. Chrome tells me there's an issue if a blog has a link to Tasteslikedirt; apparently that site has had a malware link in the past. This is what affected White Sox Cards at one time.

  8. I have actually made some adjustments in recent weeks that should make my blog quicker to load. I know it loads much more quickly on my computer, both at home and at work, since I made the changes.

If that's not the case for you, I'm fresh out of ideas. I can't strip my blog of everything.

  9. I read all my sports blogs through Google Reader. It brings in almost all of the content, picture, etc. but leaves out most of the formatting that sometimes makes some blogs difficult or unruly. Takes a little getting used to, but updates each blog or page set up as a feed any time there's a new post.

  10. Adam...I changed the setting on the comments to open a new window. Let me know if that makes it better.

  11. Smed, I use IE.

We have all types of virus/malware protection here, so I don't think there is a bug on my computer causing it.

  12. Brian, I use IE too (we are dinosaurs I think) and I can rarely view HCoSG, which sucks cuz it is one of the best blogs out there. I, too, used to have the problems with WSC, but can now view it no problem.
I would assume that like me you use the free blogger hosting and don't have a seperate server. When we have a contest or heavy traffic that free server can't handle all the action. I could never afford to set it up without the free hosting deal, but it does happen...
I doubt this helped. I know zero about tech stuff and I am just paraphrasing advice I was given from tech folks...

  14. I just noticed something new. If I just type your blog name into my browser I can go to comments and they don't run ontop of things. If I link there from another blog It does that crazy comment ontop of post thing. I can still post now because you changed your setting but linking to you from other blogs still make your pages crazy. I'll email you a screen print to show you what I am seeing when it does it again.

  15. Instead of e-mailing the screenprintto just Brian, I posted it and another Blogger problem I see sometimes.

Maybe someone out there knows what the deal is.
