Hello Hanley Ramirez.
I understand your feelings are hurt and you don't want to move to third base, even if it means Jose Reyes can play short and your awful team will be better. You want to restructure your deal, the contract that NO ONE forced you to sign, thus forcing the Marlins to consider trading you.
Let me introduce you to Michael Young. Michael Young was the Texas Rangers' second baseman from 2001 to 2003. The Rangers brought in Alfonso Soriano and Michael moved to shortstop. He started there from 2004 to 2008. In 2009, the Rangers brought up Elvis Andrus to play short so Michael moved to third. He started at third base in 2009 and 2010. The Rangers signed free agent Adrian Beltre to play third in 2011 and Michael didn't really want to DH. Guess what? He did it. Once the season started, he didn't say a word about being unhappy. In 2011, he played DH, 3B, SS, 1B and 2B. He had a career year. Oh yea, the Rangers made it to their 2nd consecutive World Series.
Stop your whining and play.
I am a fan of neither team, but with all due respect, Michael Young demanded a trade last year and did in fact make quite a stink about it. Of course he eventually stayed and like you mentioned had a fantastic year, as he usually does, but he certainly wasn't the model citizen about it. I don't see much of a difference between him and Hanley's situation at this point of the game, and I hope the Hanley follows Young's footsteps, makes the move to 3rd, and has a great year in an ugly uniform.

Excellent comparison...even though I am still bitter the Rockies didn't step up their offer to get him last offseason.
ReplyDeleteHanley HAS had diva moments before. This isn't the first example.
ReplyDeleteand now Reyes is whining and complaining because he has to cut those awful dreadlocks off due to team rules.
ReplyDeleteyou didn't think of this before signing??? Too many $$$ dancing in your head to think straight?
Dumbass.
Lol He wouldn't be crying when we win the East!! And make it to the WS, he has his issues but he'll get over them!! Go Fish!!
ReplyDeleteNot sure that Michael Young's reaction last Spring is what one should point Hanley to as an example. I still mostly like Young but his pouting could have severely damaged a less established team than the Rangers.
ReplyDeleteI'm not saying Michael didn't act up last year when Adrian was signed, but once the season started he was a model citizen and teammate, something that can't be said about Hanley based on past experiences. He might change, but I'd have to see it to believe it. Based on Michael's history of putting the team's needs first, I don't think you can compare the two guys and have Hanley come out ahead.
