A whirling Darvish

So let me get this straight.

You won't give this guy $75 million over 5 years. Yes, I know he wanted to play in SoCal.

But you'll pay $51.7 million JUST to negotiate the POSSIBILTY to give this guy $60-80 million over 5 years.

I understand the skills Darvish possesses are supposedly off the charts. Against Japanese league players.

I'm nervous. Very nervous. Mostly because the Rangers once gave this guy $65 million over 5 years.

I know, different country and different abilities. I'm still nervous.

At least they aren't sitting back watching the Angels make all the big splashes this off season.

  1. Yeah, but think of all the laughs in Arlington as people update the old Abbott and Costello skit.

    "Who is pitching?"
    "Yu"
    "No. I'm not."
    "Yes, Yu is."

You can't put a price on that kind of hilarity.

  2. Good point. Think about it this way - would you have rather just paid CJ Wilson 80 million or paid a total of 120 million for Darvish? Darvish could pay off, but it could be a massive bust, too.

  3. Maybe you'll get a prince to go with your darvish.

  4. With the fits the Angels gave the Rangers last year w/out Pujols & CJ, I think the Rangers need to take this chance ... then again, I see what you are saying. It would make me nervous too. If Prince is added to the lineup though ... with a healthy Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz, Adrian Beltre, etc....look out! At this point, the AL West is (and will be for a while) a 2 team division.

  5. Just be glad your team is willing to spend some $... bust or not, I'd take him on the A's or Padres any day of the week. Need some type of hype to fill the empty seats in Oakland ;-)

  6. at least if Yu doesn't sign within the 30 day limit, Texas doesn't have to pay a cent.

  7. I think Yu are probably pretty pleased with Yu now.
