Now that's an auction

The Dallas Morning News (and I'm sure numerous other sources) are reporting the Texas Rangers may be put up for auction. Apparently bidding would start at $15 million above the price Nolan Ryan and Chuck Greenberg negotiated for the team back before the season started.

The auction could happen at one of the mediation sessions or at a time set aside specifically for that purpose on July 16th.

I don't know how this is going to play out. I just know the fans and players want it to be finished. Obviously, it hasn't distracted the players, but the inability of the team to pursue any players as the trade deadline approaches hampers what is, for now, a promising season.

  1. They should start it at $0.99. Otherwise they'll alienate a lot of potential bidders.

    Kidding, of course.
