How much time do you spend blogging?

Part 1:

How much time do you spend on your own blog?

You know, scanning cards, researching topics, writing...the whole thing.

I've got the scanning thing down so that doesn't take too much time, but I'm not scanning in 100's of cards at a time. I probably spend 30 minutes to an hour scanning cards each week. Some of those don't make into posts, at least not right away.

Researching topics takes a fair amount of time. I really don't do enough research. There are some blogs out there that have so much great info that those people are either really smart or do great research. I probably spend 2 hours a week doing research for topics.

Finally, the writing/editing process. Some of your writing blows me away and it's so great I sometimes think "why bother", but I enjoy the writing part of blogging best of all. In a week where I put up 2 posts per day (and I'm not on vacation), I probably spend 2 hours writing.

So that's somewhere around 4-5 hours a week spent on my own blog.

How about you?

Part 2: Coming in a couple of days.

  1. Lately, not much!! I've had a lot of things going on this summer at home. I take photos of cards I post so it's done right before I start writing. It's very fast but sometimes the quality is not that great.I need to get better lighting. For some past historic topics I've spent a lot of time on research. Maybe 3-5 hours per post.A lot of it,for me,is kind of spontaneous. When I'm going good I probably average at least 1 hour per night.

  2. Let's see...
Scans - Anytime I get cards in, I generally scan those right away. And if I get free time in a week, I'll scan a big lot of cards and edit/crop those images so that I can use them in a later post. I'd say...maybe an hour to an hour and a half a week?

Research - Depends on the kind of post - sometimes I do great named stuff and that takes longer. Other times I just dip into wikipedia or baseball reference and call it a day. I don't think I do much blog research at all at the moment now though - maybe an hour a week tops.

Writing/Editing - I'd say maybe a half hour writing in a week where I write 7-8 posts. I could really plan a lot more and end up with better content...but I keep just saying one of these days haha.

So like 3 hours a week for me.

  3. About 3 hours a week, but that is mostly spent updating want lists and things. I barely write at all, just little things. I keep hoping to do a big post, but never get around to it. So pretty much just a paragraph or two at a time.

  4. it goes in spurts... but I'd say an average of 5-6 hours a week working on the blog in various ways.

  5. Being a new blogger, it takes me a long time. I love to read the passion of all the people on these blogs. These old memories of great cards, are, well, great. I spend a long time just creating one blog, because my computer skills are not the best, but, as I said, I love to look at the old cards, the new stuff, and the passion at which each and every one of the bloggers show in their posts. I love baseball cards, and reading the happiness of someone when they have found that great card, or they have received something in the mail, well, it's just terrific.
I hope my fellow bloggers bare with me as I learn how to put my thoughts on the pages, and I continue to look forward to more great stuff from the blog card community.

  6. I don't think I even want to add it up.

  7. It all depends on what I've got going on blogwise. Sometimes, I spend hours researching and posting. Other times, 5 minutes is enough. And then there are days I don't write a thing.

  8. I can usually knock out a week's worth of posts in about an hour. Mine are pretty simple though.

  9. 13 1/2 hours on weeks ending in an even number. 16 hours and 12 minutes for weeks ending in an odd number.

  10. Not much lately, but it will probably increase in a few weeks when I have a little more free time.

My main problem is that my cards are so inaccessible right now (in a closet buried under a million under things). I have some stacks sitting on shelves in my living room, but mostly recent acquisitions that just haven't made it to the storage yet. I have told myself several times that I'm going to get them organized soon...but it hasn't happened yet.

  12. Not enough lately. My main problem is that the time that I do have to spend with my collection has to be split amongst putting cards away, selling cards on eBay, scanning cards, writing posts, etc. It never seems like I have enough time to get done what I want to do when it comes to the collection.

  13. I like the way I can schedule posts to arrive at a specific time. If I get a rush of inspiration, I can write ahead of myself. At the same time, they're helpful for those moments where I need to get away from writing for a while, the posts are still showing up.

As for the feeling that there are bloggers out there who seem much more knowledgeable...just remember that they were once on the front of the learning curve as well. Keep going at it, the experience will get you there as well.
