You must be looking for the December Contest

Well, you came to the right place.

I'm going to ask you a series of easy to answer questions. You get one entry for each question you answer. Easier than Christmas shopping right? I thought so. At the end of this little escapade, I'll randomize all the entries and one person will go away happy. The rest of you will go away thinking Santa left coal in your stocking.

The prize...well, I have to go shopping tomorrow so I'll let you know what the prize is with tomorrow's question.

Question #1: Let's suppose you have a "rich" aunt. She wants to get you something you really want for Christmas (or whichever holiday you might celebrate). What hobby related gift do you ask for this year?

  1. Matt Kemp 2005 Bowman Chrome Auto, any variation.

  2. If i had a rich aunt i would have to ask her for a lightly loved 1960 set because i love handling my cards and i love vertical cards

  3. Complete set of 1996-97 Skybox Z-Force Z-Peat cards!

  4. Sandy Koufax rookie card. Any condition.

  5. How rich is rich? How about a Pujols RC autograph that I could then flip for an Ichiro auto, different Pujols auto, Nolan Ryan RC, and a few other awesome cards?

Not that rich? The Nolan Ryan RC, best condition possible.

  6. A mini-box of Triple Threads. I've never opened even a single pack of Triple Threads just because it's so high risk.

Although if she's REALLY rich and feeling generous, a case of 2011 Gypsy Queen! I need MINI's!!!!!!

  7. How rich we talkin' here? If she's like Warren Buffett rich, she needs to buy the Braves and increase the damn payroll so Frank can go out and get a left fielder that can hit.

Ok, she's looking at me weird now. I don't want to get cut out of my fake rich aunt's will so I'll go with a '54 Topps Hank Aaron, the crummier condition the better.

  8. I've only got one aunt who would have any hope of picking out anything specific...so I think I'd send my rich aunt a lovingly crafted email with a link to "unopened boxes" pre-1970 and say I'd like anything from that...

  9. Probably an early Mauer card I need that EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO BUY UP EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE NOT A TWINS FAN.

    Oh, sorry. ;-)

  10. I would ask for a 1957 set since that was the year I was born.

  11. How rich are we talking here? Rich enough to buy everybody above and below what they wanted? That'll work. For me, all I'd really want is about three or four dozen ROMLBs and Musselman's list.

  12. I would ask for a card shop. I'd love to watch people rip packs. It would be the gift that keeps on giving.

  13. Ryan Braun 05 Bowman Chrome Auto...Or my rich uncle's box of unsorted vintage cards (assuming I have a rich aunt I have a rich uncle too).

  14. I'd ask for a game worn Ron Santo home jersey from the 1960's and a game used bat to go along with it. Hall of Fame on Monday?

    ReplyDelete
  15. An autographed game used Tony Gwynn bat. I don't want too much.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It would have to be a 1951 Bowman RC card of Willie Mays for the Giants PC.

  17. I'm addicted to chrome so how about a case of 2011 chrome!

  18. a graded 1948 Leaf Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, and/or Jackie Robinson would do the trick. But only if she was REALLY rich and REALLY loved me.

If she was my-family rich, then I'll take one of any of the low-numbered Hochevar autos that I don't have yet.

  19. 1967 Topps Mickey Mantle. Condition doesn't even have to be good.

  20. I gotta say, I'm with dayf on this one, word for word.

But, to be unique, I will say, without getting greedy, a Jean Beliveau rookie card.

Granted that is pretty greedy, but I wanted to ask for the whole set.

  21. No need to ask "how rich?" It's MY fantasy, so she's rich enough to afford this:

    1. A complete set of 1975 Topps minis.
    2. All of the 1972 Topps high numbers I need.
    3. Those nagging 2008 sets -- Timeline, Heritage, Stadium Club -- all completed.
    4. A mint, complete set of 1977 Topps.
    5. Fifteen Clayton Kershaw autograph cards that I don't have.
    6. A trash can full of oddball cards.
    7. Complete Kellogg sets from 1970-78.
    8. Rookie cards from Duke Snider and Jackie Robinson.
    9. 1953 Bowman color Pee Wee Reese.
    10. The rest of my '56 Topps needs. I'd say condition doesn't matter, but my aunt is RICH, RICH, RICH!!!!

    My aunt is so cool.

  22. An unopened case of 2003 Topps Heritage assuming she couldn't get the first choice of an unopened box of 1954 Topps.

My favorite design of the "big" cards.

    ReplyDelete
  23. i'm asking for her to give me a box of 2012 topps, topps chrome, triple threads, and please...season tickets for next year when the dodgers open without that @#$%& ex-owner, mcourt.

    ReplyDelete
  24. A case of each year's Allen and Ginter. A case of 2006 A&G would just be sick.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I would only ask for two things. A 1954 Topps Al kaline, and a program from the 1968 World Series with Tiger Stadium on the cover.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The list is simple: 1973 Topps Schmidt, 1965 Topps Carlton, 1955 Topps Koufax, 1954 Topps Aaron, 1952 Topps Mays, 1951 Bowman Mantle...showpiece cards.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm generally not a fan of the whole "grading cards" thing, but in this case I would go with a 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. graded a perfect 10 by either BGS or PSA.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Did I miss it, or has nobody said T-206 Honus Wagner? If a rich aunt is buying, you get something you would never buy for yourself. Honus, easy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. First off the Night Owls #6 just made me laugh out loud. I think it was the container that made it gold.

Oh my rich aunt I really really want, an addition to my house so that I can properly house the new Man cave and my wife will stop bitching about how much room all this stuff takes up, and a gift certificate to Blowout cards for a case of 2012 Allen and Ginter and maybe a Gypsy Queen one too, and while you have the credit card out throw in a arm full of 2008 Topps Sterling Robin Yount boxes, and go find the guy who out bid me on that 2011 Topps Tribute Rollie Fingers Red parallel card and totally ruined my Rollie Rainbow this year. Oh and world peace.

    ReplyDelete
  30. And not to be greedy but after seeing Matt's Honus request I think I need to throw a vintage card on there and I have THE vintage card in mind. 1869 Peck and Snyder Red Stocking card, not too faded.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I would have her get me a maid so I could have someone get my collection in order and make it easier for me to find cards to get signed.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think I'd ask for a box of unopened 1973 Topps (birth year) or 1981 Topps (1st year I collected) just because I want to pull the trigger on collecting a set but haven't for financial reasons so if I had that huge start, I would definitely start. It would also help me decide which year to start with.

    ReplyDelete
  33. A '52 Topps set. Condition isn't that big a deal.

Or...enough seed money to start printing up my book on the Hobby.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I could ask for the whole set, but I don't want to slim down rich Aunt Mona's wallet too much, so I'd ask for a 1954 Kaline.

    ReplyDelete
  35. T206 Wagner because my aunt would be sickeningly rich.

    ReplyDelete
  36. A 1972 Topps baseball card set that she built from purchasing unopened wax boxes.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If she could knock off the rest of my '64 Topps Coins needs, then that would be just swell!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mint sets of:

    1. 1965 Topps
    2. 1975 Topps

    ReplyDelete
  39. Pre-1970 O-Pee-Chee Hockey Cards
