I don't know about you, but I'm not a big fan of Blogger's new comment verification process.

I'm curious if it has affected the number of comments you leave. I know for a fact that I've left fewer comments around the blogosphere the last week or so since this dual verification word thing started. Never mind that half the time I can't read the words they want me to type. Of course, part of my problem is that I'm working on a big project and I've had less time to comment.

Have you been leaving less comments? Does it bother you? I guess if no one comments, I'll have my answer.

  1. It's the same setup as the one that VT's school newspaper site has, so I'm a little used to it, but it still stinks. Have you tried the audio version? It's like something out of a horror movie.

  2. I don't mind it as long as I can read the frickin words. Most times, I can't and punch out for a new one, I will give up after 2-3 tries though.

cheove tsigl - hard to read the v
asiomo oweum - damn hard to see the u
councese curpoode - anything that ends in poode is just wrong!!

  3. I still comment about the same. I am usually on my iPhone though, so autocorrect now has twice as much fun as before, which can be a little tedious.

  4. I've usually had to enter in the verification words 2y-3 times before a comment will go through. It's a little disconcerting.

  5. Now that they've removed the stupid black background from behind one of the words, it's a lot easier to type them in without a second try.

It doesn't prevent me from commenting.

  6. No different for me here as far as leaving comments. It's a bit more of a pain in the ass, but still not a major deal.

  7. I don't like it, but it isn't keeping me from commenting.

I think commenting is very important for all of us, and I try to do it as often as I can. It let's us know people are paying attention. These unreadable words won't stop me!

  8. I don't like it, but as I think Night Owl said at least they removed the background that made it impossible to read any of the words. Now I can read some of the words but it often takes two or three tries to get a comment to go through.

I also don't like the fact that if you haven't already logged in to Google (or whatever account you use) after you log-in it resets the words so you don't know if you typed the correct ones the first time or not.

I wonder are they supposed to be case sensitive? If not then I waste my time trying to type capItalS lIKe tHis.

  9. For me the bigger comment problem is you can't comment as a wordpress-er on blogger, so I have to do this "Unknown" thing and type parentheses at the end. It's been like that for about a month now.

  10. Not too bad - unless you get a letter combination that simply isn't readable. I'll give it a couple of times but after 3 or 4.....I'll usually move on.

I agree w/ LC - it is even tougher on the iPhone because you have to re-center the screen to make the words viewable and this can cause you to have to repeatedly enter & exit the input screen which is brutal.

  11. I hate the new word verification system, but it really hasn't effected me much.

  12. I've been having problems with my comments not showing up on various blogs... The annoying "prove you aren't a robot" words aren't so bad.

  13. I was going to do a post about this if someone else didn't. At least they got rid of one of the words having that reverse color circle behind it.
I don't know why they switched from just the one word that was wavy. Sometimes after refreshing the captcha about 20 times to make any sense of the words I do just give up.

  14. I don't like it but I agreee that commenting is important so I'm sticking with it. I know it makes my day when I get comments. "Helloooo, is anybody out there?" You know the feeling.

  15. I dislike the fact that they seem to have removed the checkbox to get replies emailed to you. That's idiotic. There are too many unreadable captchas, but I don't mind it other than that.

  16. I guess I've just been getting lucky - it seems like every time I comment I find myself guessing on at least one or two of the letters in the verification words, but I've never had one rejected yet. I just assumed as long as you were close they figured you must be a real person. :)

  17. I hate excessive wv scripts. Are bots really that clever? As others have said, I will usually try a couple times before giving up. Leaving comments on an iPod is tough enoug without trying to do the wv. Add to that the problem that sometimes the wv doesn't show and I have to submit my comment a couple times.
