The Problem With Topps' Delaying the Giveaway

I've read a few theories about why the Topps Giveaway hasn't started yet.

"It's a scam."

"They're just watching the click count go up and laughing at all of us."

"They just weren't ready."

The most plausible theory in my opinion is that Topps was clueless about the holiday and no one was home to start the redemption machine.

What it boils down to is this:

The card companies have been pushing around the collectors for years. Forcing sticker autos and other over-produced crap at us and expecting us to shut up and take it. And we have and that's our own fault. We just have to have the new stuff, whether it's low, medium or high end. There are always people that have to get it a.s.a.p. Kind of like these redemptions for what will amount to thousands upon thousands of nearly worthless cards.

The whole thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth. If the redemption period for the Giveaway was going to be delayed due to the holiday or whatever reason, then put a FREAKIN' note on the site. It's not that hard! Topps knew something was up when they took the countdown clock off the site. Well, guess what...

"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!" Well, I'm ticked and I'm not going to take it as much.....well, that's the plan at least.
How about someone develop a code of ethics for the card companies on how they should treat their customers? That would be nice...

Tick, tock....tick, tock.

  1. It was working for 10 minutes. I got 5 cards posted and then it crashed. Awesome.

  2. The site is up now. It looks like they're still tinkering (and I can't log in), but there's a list of "recently unlocked cards" now.

Personally, I'm not all hot and bothered by this. They gave us a date it would start. They didn't give us an hour.

  3. I'm guessing that they did not want to start the thing until they actually had people in the office to fix the servers after they inevitably crashed.

  4. I had read that it would start at a particular time, like 6 AM I think... It has worked for some, I still can't log in. The folks at Topps are surely laughing at us all right now...
