My favorite athlete ever
My favorite MLB player ever is Will Clark. I collect players like Ivan Rodriguez, Carl Yastrzemski, Joe Mauer and Johnny Bench. I like the Olympics and have great respect for those athletes who devote years and years to having a shot at the gold.
None of those people are my favorite athlete of all time.
It's this guy. My oldest son.
I've played catch with him, hit grounders and pop-ups for him, thrown BP for him, and pitched to him so he could practice catching. I've hauled him to practice and games, layed on the ground with him as he held back tears when he broke his leg in a play at the plate and I even coached his latest team. He's not the best athlete or the best catcher. He still gets nervous at the plate and sometimes won't swing. It doesn't even matter.
I'll be there to cheer him on every step of the way and when his playing days are over, I'll watch the videos, look at the pictures and hold this Big D Custom in my hand and reflect on the memories of watching my son play a game that we both love.

ReplyDeleteGreat post, thanks for sharing, awesome card as well, but unsigned?
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could bring myself to getting it signed. Plus, if we don't do a TTM for me, I can send him to his room.
DeleteThat should say "if HE won't do a TTM for me"
DeleteSo good to know he is still loving the game after such a bad leg injury.Props to the young man,and thanks for posting the card it is way cool.
