First Impression = "F"

The Rangers and Angels are still playing and it's 8-7 Angels. The game isn't over, but it didn't take long to digest my first impression of Ryan Dempster.

He gave up 8 earned runs in 4.2 innings. He only held the Angels scoreless in one of the five innings he pitched. I give him an "F" for his first outing as a Ranger, but it's not what you think.

The "F" doesn't stand for failed, foul, or "f"ed up. It stands for Familiar. Dempster had the same old familiar results against the Angels that all the other Rangers starters have had so far. Because of that, I'll withhold judgement on him until I see him against someone else.

Of course, if the Rangers somehow manage to hold onto the lead and make the playoffs, I'll have to get nervous about Angels all over again.

  1. hmmm...i was hoping the Dodgers would get dempster.
i'll be curious as well to see if we dodged a bullet, or missed getting a great pitcher.

  2. I'm hoping this is simply a case of nerves, or a fluke like Cliff Lee's debut with the Rangers in 2010 when he gave up 6 home runs.

Glad to get the division lead back to 5 games.
