It's coming.

The Yu Darvish deadline.
The Rangers have until the Wednesday deadline to sign Yu Darvish. Apparently Yu likes the Rangers professionalism and the Rangers like his...potential. The only real sticking point is the number of years on the table. The Rangers want six, Darvish wants five. It seems he wants to get into free agency sooner rather than later. Whatever. Five years seems like a long time away, although the older I get, the faster time seems to be slipping away.
The Rangers also met with Scott Boras and Prince Fielder on Friday.
I have a couple of problems with this. One, Scott Boras. I can't stand him. Two, if the Rangers sign Darvish and somehow mangage to sign Fielder, that probabaly means they don't get Hamilton, Napoli or Kinsler back. Kinsler has a club option for 2013 and I have to wonder if they feel he's worth $10 million. I love Josh Hamilton, but his injury history is a big consideration.
The Rangers do have that 20 year, $3 billion deal with Fox Sports Southwest. An extra $80 million a year won't hurt the ability to sign players. I just wonder how much is too much.
So where do you think Fielder will end up?
Hope the Rangers get this Darvish thing done. Not sure about Fielder. Does he go back to the Brew Crew?

I'm beginning to wonder if Prince is pricing himself out of the market on purpose right now. It's been over 2 months, and I believe that the Texas rumor is the first "strong" hint of anyone chasing after him.
ReplyDeleteWednesday is the 18th.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Fixed it. That's the hazards of writing in the wee hours.
ReplyDeleteIf Darvish was smart, he'd take whatever he can get, if he really wants to come to America. He could possibly work out some sort of performance bonus or option to tack on bonus money for him if he's really concerned about being even richer. So many Japanese players just don't cut it (not every Japanese star is successful in America, as you mentioned) and I don't think teams are willing to throw an overly crazy amount of money at players for long-term expensive commitments that could turn out sour very quickly.
ReplyDeleteWell Darvish is now with the Rangers. Hopefully he has a good career since I have an auto card of his lol :).
