On Thursday, I made my 321st consecutive non-2012 Allen & Ginter post of the year. It was a tongue in cheek post to be sure, but Dennis over at Too Many Verlanders instantly awarded me Blog of the Year status for not going down the Ginter path. In the ceremony that followed, I thanked all the little people, the people behind the scenes, my wife, my kids and I was about to start thanking every blogger individually when they started playing the theme song over me and escorted me off stage. I didn't get to keep the title too long, because yesterday I found and purchased a blaster of A&G.
After all the drama, the fanfare and hoopla, I opened the first pack and this was the first card I saw.
Imagine, in your mind, the sound Pac-Man used to make when one of the ghost things killed your Pac-Man. That's the sound the went off in my mind when I saw Mr. Volquez looking over my shoulder. Pure disappointment. If first impressions are important, this card did not make a good one. Hey, it's just one card right? The rest will be better right?
They were so good, I didn't even scan another one out of the first pack. I also pulled:
Josh Willingham, Twins
Scott Rolen, Reds
Rickie Weeks, Brewers
Ricky Romero, A&G Back mini
Jason Heyward, Braves
First impressions do count, but I'm not going to let that turn me against Ginter just yet. I like the borders more than last year so it's still go potential. I'll post the rest of the blaster over the weekend.
Even if that means Blog of the Year is out of the picture.
