A tale of two Topps cards

I love Topps cards. Most of the time. Topps was in competition with Fleer and Donruss when I first started collecting in 1981, but the only "old" cards we could ever get were Topps cards. Of course by old, I meant anything pre-'81.

Sometimes, Topps just amazes me with the incredible photos they use. Stadium Club has some of the best photographs I've seen from any brand. But, this isn't about Stadium Club. This is about two cards I pulled in the same pack of 2009 Topps Updates and Highlights.

Let's start with the bad. The amazingly, what were you thinking, someone should be fired bad.

Say what you want about Boggs, think all the negative things you want about the Yankees. There is no reason to make a player look ridiculous on a card unless he is in on the joke. I've never seen a player look that scared on a card. What happened Wade, did someone just tell you Will Ferrell's Land of the Lost was the movie on the plane to Seattle? That is a ridiculous picture in the first place and personally, I think it is a funny shot. But to use it on your Legends of the Game Insert. Not good.

Now, for the great. This is one of my favorite cards of 2009. I love action shots. And this is a G.R.E.A.T action shot.

Get past the horrible picture I took and look at the action on the card. I don't have to describe it, just take it in. I'm not a Pirates fan and couldn't tell you one thing about Ronny Cedeno other than what is on the card. I do believe I'll have to get another one of these and send it TTM.

So there you have it. The good and the bad. I hope Topps had two different people choose these pictures. Maybe the person who chose the Boggs shot can go work somewhere else and let the other person be in charge of photo selection.
